Career & College Clubs Joins NCCEP

admin | Thursday, October 20, 2016

We are incredibly excited to have a new home for Career & College Clubs – the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (“NCCEP”).

NCCEP is a nonprofit, national leader in college access and readiness. Most notably, NCCEP is known for its leadership in the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (“GEAR UP”) community. GEAR UP is a competitive grant program of the U.S. Department of Education that increases the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education by providing States and local community-education partnerships six-to-seven year grants to offer support services to high-poverty, middle and high schools.

NCCEP serves as the voice of GEAR UP in Washington, DC, advocating for the GEAR UP program before the White House, Members of Congress and the Department of Education.

In addition, as the U.S. Department of Education-designated training and technical assistance provider to the GEAR UP grantees, NCCEP serves as the annual conference convener, offering training and programs to support and advance the GEAR UP movement.

In other words, NCCEP is the perfect home to scale up and expand Career & College Clubs’ impact.

In the short term, our school partners will see little change – same staff, same materials, same great service. Long term, our relationship with NCCEP will result in an expanded program and alignment with a national leader in college readiness advocacy, evaluation, and technical assistance.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Career & College Clubs Joins NCCEP

Partnership Will Increase College Readiness throughout the Nation

Washington, DC – October 20, 2016 – The  National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (“NCCEP”) announced that it is the new home for Career & College Clubs, a national program for helping students prepare for success in high school, college, and life.

“We are excited to bring Career & College Clubs into the NCCEP family,” said Ranjit Sidhu, NCCEP President and CEO. “Career & College Clubs is a well-respected, evidence-based solution for increasing college readiness and success that aligns perfectly to our mission. I’m looking forward to working with the program’s existing school and community partners, as well as introducing Career & College Clubs to our stakeholders.”

Career & College Clubs is a peer-to-peer intervention that provides students with the knowledge, tools, support, and confidence they need to plan for and assume responsibility for their futures. The program is targeted to schools and communities with large percentages of students living in poverty; historically, 76% of the students at Career & College Clubs school sites, on average, are eligible for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Through the 2015-2016 academic year, the program had been adopted by more than 300 schools, reaching 50,000+ students.

An analysis of student outcomes by ACT, Inc. in 2015 found that the odds of enrolling in college are 85% higher for Career & College Clubs students than for a comparison group. Career & College Clubs currently focuses on the middle grades, which are a key transition point for students. Over the next year, the program will be expanded to provide a continuum of support through the 12th grade.

Career & College Clubs was developed by ALL Management Corporation (“ALLMC”), a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. To further the objectives of Career & College Clubs and ensure its ongoing success, ALLMC transferred Career & College Clubs by granting all of the program’s intellectual property, contracts, and other assets to NCCEP, along with other considerations. The three ALLMC staff members primarily responsible for running the program – Joe Booth, Kelly Pappas, and Carina Soto -have joined the NCCEP team.

“In Washington, DC and across the country, NCCEP is a respected leader and advocate for college readiness and success,” said Joe Booth, managing director of the program since its launch in 2007. “NCCEP is the perfect home for Career & College Clubs as we grow the program and increase the number of students who graduate from high school ready to succeed in college and life.”
