President-elect Donald Trump last week announced his intent to nominate Betsy DeVos as Secretary of the United States Department of Education.

Betsy DeVos

Ms. DeVos is chairman of the American Federation for Children and the Windquest Group. She has also served on national and local charitable and civic boards, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, American Enterprise Institute, The Philanthropy Roundtable, Kids Hope USA, and Mars Hill Bible Church.

Other than her strong support for school choice, and opposition to Common Core State Standards, little is known about DeVos’ positions on education policy.

DeVos’ nomination is subject to confirmation by the United States Senate. A timetable for the confirmation process has not been set.
